Hi, my name is Austin Burge, and this year I’ll be an apprentice at Wellspring Church through the 3 Streams Institute. I’m passionate about creating spaces where people feel they belong, speaking life into tension, and the reconciliation of creation, and I’m excited to take the next steps in my ministry preparation. Over the next year, I’ll be serving in the Children’s & Family Ministry, caring for our precious kiddos downstairs on Sunday mornings and partnering with parents in discipleship throughout the week. 3 Streams Institute, an initiative of Wellspring Church in Englewood, Colorado, is an educational organization dedicated to recruiting, training, forming and sending a new generation of church leaders across North America. 3 Streams is a work-based learning program which complements formal theological education and provides interns, apprentices, and residents practical experience, healthy community, and learning focused on church leadership as well as spiritual, emotional, and relational health.

Incoming apprentices receive a $8,000/yr tuition benefit from Wellspring to support their formal education. Wellspring Church will match up to $10,000 of every dollar an apprentice raises that supports their salary. Residents (the year after apprenticeship) raise additional dollars to support a full-time salary. This amount for residents needed can range from $20,000 to $70,000 depending on circumstances.

The goal for the internship is to give early career students broad exposure to life working in a church while deepening their spiritual, emotional, and relational health. The apprenticeship takes the next step and gives apprentices deepening training, space to discern career next steps, and hands-on pastoral experience. The residency is built around the ordination process in the diocese of the Rocky Mountains and aims to form senior leaders who will serve as church planters, senior pastors, missionaries, and pastors.

About Austin
I grew up in Lakewood, Colorado, graduated from D’Evelyn Jr./Sr. High School, and then attended Colorado Christian University. I’ve never lived outside the Denver metro area. I served as a youth pastor at a local church from 2018 to 2024, and after that transition, the Lord led my family to Wellspring. Within the year, I discovered the 3 Streams Institute. It wasn’t what I expected, but the Lord made it clear that I was to pursue it in obedience. I’m deeply passionate about togetherness with Jesus. I’m captivated by the beauty and transformation that happens when we see one another, know one another, and empower one another toward restoration and reconciliation. I’m hopeful this passion will be stretched and refined, and that it will ultimately glorify God and bless families as I spend intentional time with them throughout this next year of apprenticeship.
“The internship has revealed a vulnerable, wounded heart, invited me into deep relational and soul healing, and shaped me into a more holistic son, father, and husband. As I continue on into the apprenticeship, I hope to gain further insight and experience in those three roles of my identity, specifically as they compare and relate to that of a shepherd, both Jesus, my Good Shepherd, as well as the shepherd I hope to one day be for others.”
